Writing is a difficult job as you can’t always be creative. You need a schedule, rituals, and ideas beforehand for a good writing session.

It’s difficult but not impossible yet we run away from it. We’ll hide behind research, courses, and ideation to avoid putting in the hard work.

But alas creativity is not a switch that you can just “turn on” and your avoidance only makes it more difficult to get in the flow.

You’ll make silence your companion. That’s the stepping stone of writing that every writer has to learn.

Here are the four habits that have made it impossible for me to be creative, yet I still fall into their trap on occasion.

1. Don’t Blame Procrastination, Blame this

Writers are readers as that’s how we fall in love with the written words.
But that’s also our favorite mode of procrastination.

You pick a book or a writing course to improve your skill or at least that's what you believe but in reality, you are just procrastinating on the real task.
