Mexico-U.S trade grows to nearly $800 billion
In advance of the North American Leaders’ Summit, Secretario de Economía Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal announced that bilateral trade between Mexico and the United States had grown to almost $800 billion in 2013. Guajardo Villarreal further noted that prior to trade liberalization, exports from Mexico consisted primarily of energy products. While today, 83 percent of Mexican exports to the United States consist of manufactured goods.
In a speech to the Cámara de la Industra de Transformación de Nuevo Leon, Guajardo Villarreal discussed the recent visit of U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker to Monterey as conclusive evidence of the close links between the business community in Mexico and the United States. He urged the businessmen of both countries to continue to work with governments to create competitive conditions that allow us to jointly face the challenges of the 21st century.
