Content

1. Copy the YouTube link

2. Open Blackboard

3. Why use YouTube?

It is possible to get your own or others’ video material directly into Blackboard from YouTube, so your students can play the content in Blackboard.

If you want to share your own video, it must first be uploaded to YouTube. Read the following instructions for upload to YouTube.

1. Copy the YouTube link

  • Start by finding the video you want to share. Then mark and copy the web address in the URL address line in the top of your browser.

2. Open Blackboard

  • Locate the forum where you want to share the video. It is possible to share the video in a blog, a wiki or, for example, a discussion forum in Blackboard, no matter if you use the course site as teacher or as student.
  • Click the video icon when you want to insert a video.

The text editor

  • A new window opens. In “File/URL” you insert the link from YouTube. You do this by right-clicking and “paste”, or using the keyboard shortcut [ctrl] + [v].
  • Then click a random place (to update the page), and a preview of your video will appear.
  • When you are done, click “Submit”

3. Why use YouTube?

There are various reasons why it’s smart to use YouTube when you want to get your own video into Blackboard.

First of all, all browsers and all devices (computer, tablet and smartphones) can play YouTube. That way, you are certain that your students can view the video.

Second of all, Blackboard has chosen to integrate YouTube directly in Blackboard. This means that Blackboard ensures that playback of videos from YouTube works.

If you choose another media player, such as Vimeo, you cannot be sure that everything works in Blackboard.
