Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Inner Fire’ Theory Could Improve Your Career Happiness

How to find your own fire within.

In the midst of searching for a quote for another article, something happened as it infrequently does. A quote stood out as if a glow of yellow light was bestowed upon it it’s entire life. That quote was this:

“A great fire burns within me, but no one stops to warm themselves at it, and passers-by only see a wisp of smoke” ― Vincent Van Gogh

A quote that makes so much sense it feels like it was destined to be found all these years later and for me to write this story. Or it might be the fact it is 6 am and I’ve had 2 coffees already. Either way, it feels monumental.

The Daily Grind

Work is an odd creature. It’s one that has an explicit purpose. No one is questioning ‘why’ we work but it’s often we question ‘what’ we work on. That’s not surprising and it happens for many reasons. I’m sure you’ve seen the stats.

“A global poll conducted by Gallup has uncovered that out of the world’s one billion full-time workers, only 15% of people are engaged at work. That means that an astronomical 85% of people are unhappy in their jobs.”
