Meet Josephine Potente — Legal Advisor & Chief Compliance Officer

Meet Ms. Josephine Potente, Spend.com’s Chief Compliance Officer, and a Spend Foundation Legal Advisor. Josephine is responsible for handling Anti-Money Laundering Programs, Know Your Customer Programs, and other internal Compliance Programs.

Being a Legal Advisor for Spend Foundation Josephine also will assist in the legal advice of Spendcoin, Cross Ledger, and Blockchain University.

Josephine is an attorney who has been in the payments industry for 10+ years as Chief Legal Officer and Head of Compliance for a prepaid card program manager and Payment Facilitator as well as a large processor/FinTech company. Josephine has worked closely with issuing banks as well as regulators on the issuing side in the U.S., Canada and E.U. She also served as a volunteer advisor on a FinCEN board, providing feedback and advice from an issuer and FinTech perspective on issues affecting money services businesses and e-payments.

Prior to her tenure in the payments industry, Josephine spent 7 years as an associate with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in New York City where she was a senior litigator specializing in the defense of investment banks that were the subject of SEC investigations and regulatory actions. Josephine is a native of New York where she grew up in the Bronx. She is a graduate of NYU Law School (2002), summa cum laude, where she was a senior editor of the International Law Review and of Fordham University, summa cum laude, in Bronx, New York. Josephine is a member of the New York State bar association and the New Jersey Bar. Josephine is fluent in Spanish and splits her time between Toronto and New York where she lives in New York with her husband, three daughters and their two dogs.
