Rakuten Wallet has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CALIVERSE, a group company of the Lotte Group that operates a metaverse business based in South Korea, for a strategic partnership in the web3 sector.

The two companies plan to discuss collaboration and cooperation on web3 services in the metaverse, including games, NFT sales, shopping, and artist live events.

Rakuten Wallet, which operates the Rakuten Group’s cryptocurrency exchange business, has provided spot and margin trading services for cryptocurrencies as a cryptocurrency exchange operator and a financial instruments business operator. Rakuten Wallet has been gradually entering the web3 business since 2023, and the new web3 service, which is scheduled to be launched in 2024, is scheduled to be equipped with functions such as centralized management of digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and NFTs through smartphone apps, connection to web3-related services provided by other companies, and smooth integration with the cryptocurrency trading service provided by Rakuten Wallet.

CALIVERSE is not only strengthening its integration with web3 services, but also creating an environment where you can experience the next-generation metaverse created by a high-precision 3D engine. The next-generation metaverse provided by CALIVERSE depicts the cityscape of buildings and stores in the metaverse space, customizable high-definition avatars, and K-POP concerts and EDM stages created by real-time AI synthesis of live action and graphics, allowing you to experience the new metaverse world as if you were in the actual space.

CALIVERSE held an invitation-only preview event of its metaverse implementation in Tokyo in spring, and is due to launch officially alongside the WebX Asia conference later this month.
