Why Reading Is Part of Success

Reading

I have read for almost 4 years.

Even though my reading skills are still decent, I found it interesting that it separates readers and non-readers. What I’m going to tell you about is my opinion. This is not a generalization because I know there’s someone out there who doesn’t need reading for their part of success.

I always feel enjoyment after reading a couple of books.

I love reading as much as I love writing. Reading is like my input, and my output is through my writing. The articles that I wrote are not perfect.

I know that I need to learn and improve more through reading and, of course, evaluation.

My journey started with reading. I will never get this far without reading. I haven’t succeeded yet, but I know that my reading skills will be part of my success in the future.

It’s not because of how the knowledge is implemented in my brain from reading, even though it’s one of the parts of success.

It’s imbecility.

Imbecile

What do I mean by "imbecile"?

From Merriam-Webster.com, imbecile is a foolish or stupid person. I didn’t say that most people are imbeciles or foolish, but what I want to point out is their stubbornness and vanity. People who have those two inside of them are blocking their way to learning something valuable.

Which leads them to imbecile.

There’s always someone who thinks that they are the best at what they do. They used to say, “You don’t have to tell me what to do, because I know what I have to do.” Well, there’s nothing wrong with that, but if you close your ears for the entire time and don’t let yourself learn, it will result in disaster.

There’s always something you can learn from other people.

Even if you can’t see it, there’s no one above or below you.

As Sadhguru said,

Don’t look up to anyone; don’t look down on anyone.

Well, the same as I am.

You don’t need to look up or down on someone like me or anybody else on the internet or in the world. We might learn something, but we don’t have to overestimate or underestimate other people.

Respect is the key to learning, and that’s why we need to listen to other people.

Relationship of success with reading

Let’s go back to the part about success.

Knowing what you need to fix, you can become an expert in what you pursue. If you find it hard to listen to other people, start by reading. That’s why reading is part of success.

Reading is pretty much a simple tool to teach you how to listen.

There are thousands of words that you can choose to listen to or ignore. Even so, making yourself sit and read is actually part of humility.

You want to understand what the writer has to say.

You want to learn from and maybe implement what the writer says.

That’s why reading is my part of success because, I used to be stubborn and vanity. I thought I had all the skills in the world. I thought I was better than anybody else, and I don’t need someone to tell me what to do. Well, as a result, I became imbecile.

I end up embarrassing myself in front of other people.

Start small

You can start by reading for 5 minutes every day.

If it’s still too hard for you, you can start reading for only 1 minute. I used to read for 1 minute every day. It’s actually pretty funny when I used to read for 1 minute every day because

I would sit down, start the timer, open up pages of the book, and end up wasting 40 seconds of it.

Read it for like 10 seconds, and then close the book for 10 seconds.

You can do that too, because the main part is that you have to go through the process of putting yourself to start. This is what I called progress. If someone can do it, you can do it too.

Humble yourself to read, which will lead you to other parts of success.

You just accomplished one simple step toward success!
