Project DELTA at the “Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Steering Committee”
Project DELTA had the pleasure to attend the second session of the “Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Steering Committee” (AP-IS) that took place in Bangkok, Thailand last August 27th and 28th.
AP-IS is an international conference organized by UN-ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) to deal with matters falling within the digital divide and economic, social and technological inequalities in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our CMO, Josh Choi, participated as a guest panelist in the “Insights and Experiences from the Private Sectors” session alongside with IT experts from IBM and Google.
Mr. Choi presented good arguments on the benefits of implementing blockchain technology in the public sector and cited as examples the World Food Programme case and a pilot project in Bangkok that pursues a peer-to-peer renewable energy trading platform based on blockchain.
Currently, the World Food Programme is carrying out one of the first blockchain projects within the UN systems focused on humanitarian aid, known as Building Blocks. About 100,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan are benefiting from this project receiving a “cash-for-food” aid all the while WFP saves $150,000 a month in exchange and remittance fees. On top of this, refugees can use iris scan authentication to confirm their identity and access a digital wallet with all of their personal information. Thanks to this system, refugees could regain legal identities that were lost when they fled their countries.
Mr. Choi stressed the importance for the public sector to implement blockchain projects as a way to achieve mass adoption by the citizens. Many of these projects yield a great potential to solve many problems; however, most people are unfamiliar with this technology and underestimate its use. For this reason, he suggested blockchain partnerships between the public and private sectors and further explore BTG business models.
Project DELTA plans to cooperate with these UN agencies to create a global outlet for our token, Dela. In the future, we will strive to build the ‘DELTA Knowledge Hub” to be used as a social tool by governments around the globe.

프로젝트 델타는 지난 달 27일부터 28일까지 태국 방콕에서 개최된 아시아-태평양 정보 초고속망 운영위원회(Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Steering Committee, 이하 AP-IS) 회의에 초청 패널로 참석했습니다.
AP-IS는 UN-ESCAP(유엔 아시아태평양 경제사회개발 기구)가 주관하는 국제 회의로 아시아 태평양 지역의 디지털 격차 및 경제적, 사회적, 기술적 불평등에 대해 논의하는 자리입니다.
프로젝트 델타는 회의 기간 중 Insights and experiences from the Private Sectors 세션에 패널 연사로 초청되었으며 구글, IBM 등 글로벌 IT기업 연사들과 나란히 주제 발표를 진행했습니다.
이번에 발표를 하게된 프로젝트 델타팀의 CMO 최지영(Josh Choi)는 공공 분야에서 블록체인 기술의 활용 방안에 대해 이야기 했습니다. 유엔세계식량계획(World Food Programme, WFP)이 전세계 난민촌에 식량 대신 가상화폐를 제공하고 있는 것과 태국 방콕에서의 블록체인을 활용한 재생 에너지 공유 프로젝트 등을 예로 들었습니다.
WFP는 최근 시리아 난민들의 원조 프로젝트에 블록체인을 적용, 이들에게 지급되는 원조금을 지불함에 있어 월 15만달러 상당의 환전 및 송금 수수료 절감 효과를 거두고 있고, 난민촌 주민들은 홍채인식 정보와 블록체인 기술을 통해 가상화폐로 물건을 구입하는 것은 물론, 개인정보를 안전하고 투명하게 관리하고 있습니다.
이에 델타의 CMO, 최지영은 정부 대상으로 블록체인 기술을 활용함에 있어서 현재 ICO나 가상화폐 중심의 규제 및 사고의 틀에서 벗어나, 오늘날 많은 아시아 국가들이 직면하고 있는 환경, 교육, 보건, 개인정보 보안, 도시설계 등의 여러 분야에서 블록체인을 적용함으로써 이를 해결할 수 있는 다양한 민.관 간의 협력 B2G모델이 필요함을 강조했습니다.
프로젝트 델타팀은 이러한 유엔 기구들과의 협력을 통해 프로젝트 델타의 토큰인 델라가 전세계적으로 유통될 수 있는 출구를 만들 전망입니다. 앞으로 유엔 기구들 및 세계 각국의 정부들과 긴밀한 협의를 할 수 있도록 메인넷 구축 및 델타 지식 허브의 구축에 더욱 힘쓰도록 하겠습니다.
