Class today- Today we talked with, Rick Bakas, WeedHorn’s Founder and CEO via Google Talk. We also had the pleasure to sit down with the Founder and CEO of Sweet Grass Kitchen, Julie Berliner.

Rick Bakas, told us about his design strategy regarding his mainstream cannabis site, WeedHorn.com. He stressed that “simple” is the most effective and appealing to users. His design background stemming from, Nike, supplied him with the valuable knowledge for design. He also designed the Broncos new logo.

Our second guest, Julie Berliner, Founder and CEO of Sweet Grass Kitchen, spoke to us about the history of her business as well as the logistics within the edible business. The marketing and “feel” of her brand is something that stands out. Clear pictures, good layout and a clean design make up for an enjoyable web site.

Lab testing takes place in every step of, Sweet Grass Kitchen’s, production process: They test the butter, the batter, and the final product batches. This testing insures that the product is safe and complies with state regulations. Testing for potency ensures that they can correctly dose the edibles with a specific amount of THC.

Final Project update

Julie Berliner, mentioned that “everyone has always had to test for potency,” but now people are starting to test for contaminants like mold, fungi and pesticides. With the always changing laws within this industry, regulation is a slow process.

I find potency testing to be most interesting, because it allows us to see which cannabinoids are active within the specific bud as well as the potency of each of them. This is important because each cannabinoid has a different effect, which satisfies different consumers needs, as seen below.
