Important Chapters for JEE

As JEE is the most unpredictable undergraduate exam in the world, one cannot say for sure from which chapter most questions will come. But a scientific study of the last 16 years of papers leads to some good conclusions. Also when we take input from experienced teachers on which chapters are most important, they told us that though some chapters are of very high weightage but one should prioritise revision only after seeing the effort needed to get a strong command over them. This understanding may make you prioritise chapters which have low weightage but require very low input. (Like Statistics in Math). Both kinds of lists are provided below:

A. The 4 types of chapters

You can divide the chapters based on how much ‘weightage’ (importance to the exam) vs how much input (effort to learn and understand) they require. The 4 types of chapters are –

High Weightage, Low Effort (Easy)

These are the most important group of chapters. These you must complete very very thoroughly.

High Weightage, High Effort (Hard)

These are the second most important group of chapters. You will probably have to spend a lot of time on these chapters.

Low Weightage, Low Effort (Easy)

These are the chapters you can do only when you have time left after the first 2.

Low Weightage, High Effort (Hard)
Forget these chapters! You don’t need to bother with them as you should focus on the above three types of chapters instead.

The blue highlight in the Low Weightage, High input section denotes that, the chapter itself may not be very important but it’s concepts are useful in important chapters (meaning basic chapters)

Its also a great idea to start with a Full Test if you are confused to break down the effort needed by Chapter. Embibe’s tests are a very good way to get an accurate picture on where you stand. Further taking Chapterwise Tests will also help build an accurate sense of which concepts are the problem. Don’t think about ‘saving the full tests for later’ as calibration should happen at both points — initial and final! The analytical feedback will guide you about the concepts in which you are weak and you can learn the concepts with video explanations at Learn feature of embibe.

If you are very weak in the chapter then you should visit Learn feature of embibe. where you can revise important chapters through Cheat Sheets. You can revise important facts and formulas in a nut shell.

Besides the test feedback (highly recommended), you could honestly mark your confidence level in each chapter. For the Chapters in which you have above 90% confidence you should be ready for the Chapter-wise Test Series from embibe to tweak your preparation.

If your confidence level in the chapter is in between 60–90% then you should practice oriented questions before going for Test. The practice at embibe is adaptive and all the questions are attached with hint so that you can solve the questions yourself. Don’t worry if you see easy questions initially.
