A developing manifesto …notes from the worker in the backroom

Identity is an integral part of my practice. I often say that I don’t give a damn about clothes, but that’s not entirely true. I care about the meaning of clothing and its origins as a fig leaf, as described in the book of Genesis in the Bible.

Fashion’s meta-narrative identifies your tribe, alludes to your gender, and demonstrates your status, which is vital in my work in entertainment. While branding and brands are always at play, I use fashion to convey something more profound. Collaborating with the same client for over a decade has allowed me to create more ambitious narratives.

I aim to get my clients to delve deeper into their own lives and artistic visions rather than just their aspirations. To do this, I analyze their intellect and artistic vision by studying various histories, including their own. It is a deep dive into their DNA, something more intergenerational.

An essential reference in my work is the space of transformation from Clark Kent into Superman, an abundant concept in entertainment. David Bowie was Ziggy Stardust, Beyonce was Sasha Fierce, Bono was The Fly, MacPhisto, and The Mirror Man, and Jay Z is Shawn Carter.

I find the space between the man and Superman fascinating, and I’m on a journey to discover what that space looks like visually. Join me on this journey of exploration and discovery to figure it out or indulge in a rant. Let’s delve into the meaning of clothing and create narratives that go beyond the status quo. Together, we can uncover something truly profound.

Till the next one, back to work.
