The #5 bestselling new font on MyFonts of 2019 was the lovely TT Hoves by TypeType, a technologically styled geometric sans serif family of 20 styles.

What inspired you to design this typeface? Were you designing for a specific use case or customer? Or were you more focused on a particular artistic vision? Or some combination of both?

TT Hoves was designed as a geometric grotesque with technical characteristics targeted for applications in such fields as architecture, industry, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, construction, and general research. This influenced the predominance of straight strokes over rounded ones where possible. Curved strokes are also more angular, instead of smooth solutions.

Walk us through the process of designing this typeface. Was there anything different about it, compared to your usual process? Did it come along more easily than others, or were there unique challenges?

A unique challenge was to strike a balance between the organic and technological character of the design, without creating a strictly display typeface.

Looking ahead, are there new projects you’re excited about? Anything you haven’t tried yet but are eager to explore?

I would like to draw a very display-like serif design, while maintaining the ability to address practical applications.
