Cocoapods, third party libraries, and Life Design Team meeting
What have I learned about app design and development today?
Deep dive into Cocoapods today.
Cocoapods manages the development project’s integration with third party libraries. And in app development, third party libraries are really, to me, apps of apps. In a superficial sense, Cocoapods are almost like an App Store of apps of apps by app developers for app developers. How interesting. We all need apps!
The good old concept of outsourcing / specialisation / collaboration in the brand new context of app building.
When you get into it, the libraries or pods can use other libraries, and the deeper level libraries become “dependencies”. And theoretically, these layerings of apps of apps can go n levels deep, where n has no particular limit. Wow, to a beginner so far, the rabbit hole seems to go pretty crazy pretty fast. Reminds me of the movie Inception, where layers of dreams can get so deep we might get trapped in them. In this case, thank god for Cocoapods, which checks on all the relationships and ensures a fully mapped out path is built and present.
As an experiment, we successfully loaded a “CLTypingLabel” pod / third party library today, which is an “app” that can replace the manual codes for the text animation made on Day 29 using loop statements. And had it successfully replicate the effect. Amazing.
What have I learned about journaling products / technologies / users today?
Following yesterday’s journal, the Life Design Team inaugural get-together took place today!
Absolutely fabulous day at the Orange Grove Farmers Market, picnic blanket on the playground lawn, blue sky, amazing sun, fresh air, outdoors, delicious coffee, best friends, remote friendly ice breakers, and totally awesome and enriching conversations, on designing our lives and work lives. Look forward to journaling together with my team.
