Introducing Talko
We couldn’t be more excited to launch Talko, a product we’ve built to improve how people and teams come together and get things done.
For most of us, the smartphone has become our go-to communication device. We’re constantly on the move; sharing experiences with one another in real-time in a quest to get things done, in both work and personal lives. But the irony is that while we’re saying so much more, we’re connecting so much less. Texting is great for quick, straightforward interactions, but it’s impossible to communicate with emotion and clarity when there’s nuance, complexity or a need to efficiently get things done with others.
We believe that amazing things happen when we talk with each other — thoughts are shared, ideas formed and problems solved. That’s why we built Talko. It’s an app that helps people talk, share and do things using the most human form of communication we have — our voices.
As Ray has said, we began the project with a question: If the phone call had never existed prior to the ‘net and then the smartphone, what amazing things might we we be doing now with voice? That led us to imagine and build a type of ‘call’ that is quite different, and we think far better for helping people and teams use voice to get things done. There are three things that are most unique about Talko:
- Talk: Use your voice when and how you want — LIVE or not — to communicate with clarity, purpose and emotion. Talk live with others when there’s urgency or a scheduled meeting, or just send a message for others to hear and reply on their own time.
- Share: Bring conversations to life and enhance your team’s productivity by sharing photos as you talk. Tap the camera to instantly show others what you’re talking about, with no disruption to the flow the conversation.
- Do: Organize, replay and share important calls and key moments using tags and bookmarks. You can easily find, follow-up and take action on key issues.
Our team is led by co-founders Ray Ozzie, Matt Pope and Eric Patey. We are funded by Ray Ozzie and a team of top investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Greylock Partners and Kapor Capital.
We think Talko can be an amazing social productivity tool for many types of teams and people. For more than a year, we’ve beta tested it with hundreds of users and many teams — sales teams, manufacturing teams, event management teams, support teams, engineering teams, humanitarian teams, and more. It’s been an exciting beginning to a journey that we hope you will now join.
Talko is available for iPhone today — get it in the App Store. We’re currently working on Android and web apps and will let you know as soon as they’re ready.
