The lost army

Countless numbers lost with no signs of being found

The people around you know.

Your spouse knows.

Your kids know.

It is all over you like a stench.

A few weeks ago it was the night for our weekly volleyball game. It was the first week of playoffs and we were eager to play and have a good time. Turns out the other team chose not to show up because they were in the lower bracket and had no way of winning the league. On the court next to us the story was the same, one team showed, the other didn’t. Great let’s play together, we are here, why not play?

Some of our team members just don’t want to play

I don’t get this, of the four teams three don’t really want to be there. We come every week excited to play. Whether we get our butts kicked or we barely eek out a win we are there enjoying the competition, doing what we enjoy.

If you don’t enjoy what you are doing enough to do it when no-one is looking, when it’s just for fun, when nothing is on the line.

Why are you doing it?

Worse than that why are you paying to do it? The league fees, babysitter fees, money spent in the bar, if you don’t enjoy it just stop.

I see this all the time with people and the work they do. The employees that watch the clock with a bead of sweat dripping down just waiting for 5 o’clock to hit so they can escape.

Stop. You are killing yourself, you are dead weight to your employer. If you hate it so much just stop.

Find something else to do. Look for your next job, your next career, a company you believe in. It’s about more than money. The people around you know. Your spouse knows. Your kids know. It is all over you like a stench.Move on.
