Have you tried to change your life recently?

Is it going well?

Or have you become worse than before?

Well, let me introduce you to

Dopamine

I know you have watched Dopamine Detox, Dopamine Control, etc. That’s not what I want to talk about. I really wanted you to change your life with this method.

Well, you can try; if you’re not interested, you might learn it for your future self.

What exactly is dopamine?

From healthdirect.gov.au, dopamine is a chemical released in the brain that makes you feel good.

Dopamine is responsible for allowing you to feel pleasure, satisfaction, and motivation. When you feel good that you have achieved something, it’s because you have a surge of dopamine in the brain.

You know the theory part; now we go straight into the practical part.

I know you’re impatient for this part.

How can we use dopamine to change our lives?

Whether with dopamine detox?

dopamine control?

or manipulate yourself to build good dopamine?

There’s no actually good or bad dopamine in my opinion. All dopamine is pretty much the same, but the activities that we do are different.

Our lives always relate to dopamine. From the way we eat, learn, watch, do, and work, we always use dopamine for those kinds of things. We watch movies because they increase our dopamine levels and dopamine needs.

When we eat food that we like, like steak, our dopamine levels increase.

If we keep indulging our dopamine levels, they’ve pretty much leveled up.

Just like playing games, you pretty much leveled up and became stronger than before. You gain new classes, weapons, and armors.

The same at life. If you increase your dopamine levels, your dopamine becomes much stronger, and you want more.

For example, you smoke.

Your dopamine level increases. You smoke a different kind of cigarette to increase your dopamine level much higher. You want dopamine at level 10 because smoking only gives you level 1 dopamine, which leads to drinking.

You increase your dopamine level again, and at the end, you’ve pretty much changed your life — in games, we called it changing classes or jobs — by indulging your dopamine level.

You’ve pretty much changed yourself into a new person than before.

You are stressed and want more dopamine. You smoke and drink more, hoping your dopamine needs are fulfilled.

Well, congratulations! You just changed your life to be your worst self.

Now, let’s change the story.

You start reading.

It’s hard, but you bear with it and keep going. Dopamine levels begin to rise when you engage in enjoyable activities such as reading. You want to read more books in different genres.

You learn a lot and are starting to love reading.

Then you start writing. Your dopamine levels start increasing, and now you love writing and reading. You want to help other people through your writing and reading skills. You become a writer, and you influence a lot of people.

Congratulations! You just changed your life to be your better self.

Disclaimer: I cannot judge your life, whether you changed it to be your worse self or your better self, because everyone has different goals. So, at the end, you are the one who chooses the life you want to live.

How to use dopamine to change our lives?

So to sum this up, I give you a practical way to use this dopamine method:

  1. Set a goal.
  2. Find dopamine-producing activities that could bring you closer to that goal.
  3. Remember that all activities need certain dopamine levels.
  4. Keep farming your dopamine levels by consistently doing those activities.
  5. Reward yourself for the hard work that you put in.

At the end, you will start to see yourself working towards the life you wanted.

At first, it’s always hard to do those dopamine activities like reading, studying, writing, etc. Vice versa, it’s always easy to do those dopamine activities like smoking, reading, and playing games.

The principle that I found that really works in my life is:

Learn to take small steps. Babies always start with crawling, not walking. So do you!

Don’t be so hard on yourself when you fail. Sometimes it takes time to acquire the things you’ve always wanted.

We plan, but God determines!
