When in Doubt, Examine Your Intentions
The right intentions always produce the right actions.
Even after taking up temporary celibacy, I continued flirting and asking girls out.
“I won’t go in intending to sleep with them,” “I’ll have a good time and ensure the girl has fun as well.”, “Kissing and fooling around won’t really annul my celibacy.”
Bull f*cking sh*t — but it took a brutally honest conversation with a close friend to see through this illusory web.
I had to burn all my willpower to delete the numbers and cancel the planned dates — but it felt f*cking amazing soon after.
The haze of doubt cleared, and I regained certainty.
The Key Lies in A Simple (but Hard) Choice
Confusion indicates cognitive dissonance — a clear divide between what we believe and what our thoughts or actions reveal.
There are only 2 ways to solve this squeamish internal feeling:
- The easy way. Modify the belief, rationalize it with B.S, and go ahead with the action. In other words — cope.
- The hard path. Reject the action or idea you had in mind. If it’s already done, accept it as a lapse and move on.
