NTT Docomo and ORIX Corporation have entered into a share transfer agreement and a shareholders’ agreement, respectively, for ORIX Credit to become a consolidated subsidiary of Docomo.

In addition, Docomo and ORIX Credit have agreed to enter into a capital and business partnership under the shareholders’ agreement to jointly operate and expand the business.

This transaction follows the acquisition of a controlling stake in brokerage Monex in October 2023.

Purpose

Docomo is committed to “Changing the world with you” as its brand slogan and continues to challenge itself in various business areas. In the Smart Life business, Docomo is expanding its efforts in the financial and settlement areas as a pillar of its business. In order to provide customers with one-stop access to financial services, Docomo has been providing various financial services, starting with cashless payment services such as “d Card®” and “d Pay®”.

The personal unsecured loan service “d Smartphone Loan®”, which was launched in July 2022, reached a cumulative loan execution amount of JPY 37bn in February 2024 and has been used by many customers.

Through this partnership with ORIX Credit, Docomo aims to combine its d Point Club membership base of 98.76 million users, the largest in Japan, with ORIX Credit’s strengths in lending business operation, personal lending credit know-how, and new service development capabilities in the lending field, in order to provide a wider range of financial services tailored to customers’ life stages.

Outline of the Partnership

The following initiatives will be considered for implementation:

  • Strengthening of credit and sophistication of operations for further expansion of the d Smartphone Loan business
  • Joint development and sales of new loan products tailored to customers’ life stages and needs
  • Strengthening of ORIX Credit’s existing business by utilizing Docomo’s media and sales channels
  • Proposal of optimal products for each individual by utilizing the data of both companies
  • Collaboration on new business development and sales, etc.

Future Outlook

Docomo and ORIX Credit will work together to further strengthen their partnership and accelerate the development of new businesses. Through this partnership, Docomo aims to provide customers with more convenient and valuable financial services that are tailored to their individual needs.
