As I mock-shin kick my younger brother for the zillionth time in the day, “Muay Thai’s turned you insane!”, he snorts.
I grinningly agree — losing track of time smashing the heavy bag, kicking random tree leaves, and even dreaming of training.
As I reward his insolence with yet another kick, an epiphany pops into my mind.
“Follow your passion(s)!” is all the rage on the internet. But few tell you how to find them — and how to realize you’ve already stumbled upon one.
Fortunately, there’s a hyper-simple way.
What a Passion Really Is
As Socrates once quipped, “The beginning of wisdom is the definition of terms.”
You’re passionate about something when you’re intrinsically motivated to do it — a deep internal itch that pushes you rather than some external-based desire.
It’s doing it for the sake of doing it — not for money. Not for fame. Not to brag to your friends. Not even for “knowledge”.
The outcome, even if it’s positive, feels secondary.
