Alright, no more series, no more promises, I’m just going to write whatever I feel like writing and try to do it consistently. Despite improving mental health, I still have some continued issues with procrastination and focus. Never the less, I hope to trudge on, hopefully, and maybe just do this without the stress of having to come up with ideas.
Just focus on what I feel like writing, and how it affects me.
So, originally, I was going to do a review of Crazy Rich Asians, since I felt that, despite its massive success, the film hadn’t made much of an impact. But I ruminated on it, and then realized: Yeah, it did. Not that the film is discussed much, but it did launch more than a few careers and you could argue it helped Hollywood realize there was a market for Asian American content (though I would be remiss if I didn’t mention actor Daniel Dae Kim’s comments on the film and how Hollywood was only interested in Asian American projects that were like Crazy Rich Asians.)
Then, another course of events happens. Emma Thompson recently pushed back on the notions of romantic comedies being “formulaic” (which I do in fact agree with somewhat), and while tweeting about it, I made this comment (click on the link, it sort of makes sense in context):
