each day presents a different
emotion — I’m either happy,
sad, or indifferent, and it’s
no use in trying to fight them
as they pile on; I’m learning to
accept them, to embrace them.

I think of what you would do — how
would you react . . . if you were
still here.
I blink away the memories
filling my headspace — your infectious
smile touching my heart.
you were a sunbeam;
an explosion of goodness.

everyone could feel
your warmth

and everyone needed it

as time passes, I remind
myself of the happy days
behind me and of all
the things you taught me.
I carry your lessons
on the tip of my tongue —

ready to share them
with someone else.
