On this page you can find out who we’re looking for, and how to apply to work with us.

Here’s a blog post about the team we’re building.

Here’s a drawing showing how all our teams fit together to deliver our #futurebarnardos mission.

We welcome applications from women, BAME and LGBTQA+ people, people with both visible and non-visible disabilities, and neurodivergent people, as we recognise that these people can be under-represented in our sector. Given the nature of our work, it is imperative that we ensure the widest view possible as we build our products and services.

We hope this helps you to understand us, but if you want to ask any more questions, our contact details are at the end of this post.

Our structure and pay

  • There are four levels of experience we’re looking for in our team, which map to the Government ‘Digital, Data and Technology’ seniority levels. We’re calling ours (in order from most opportunity to grow, to most ability to help others learn) associate, mid-weight, experienced and head.
  • Almost all roles can be done from any of Barnardo’s regional offices, with regular travel to our hub in London Euston – see individual roles for details.
  • Our regional offices are: Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff, London (Barkingside or Euston) and Crawley.
  • Because of the way we’re set up, London roles have to be ‘formally’ in Barkingside (and have to say so on the job description), but if you’re London-based, you can work from either our Euston hub or our Barkingside office.
  • Our pay bands are:
    Associate: £26,966 to £34,944 (£35,294 in London)
    Mid-weight: £35,608 to £44,833 (£45,282 in London)
    Experienced: £47,626 to £61,210 (£61,822 in London)
Head: c£58,000 to c£74,000 (see individual adverts)

How to apply

  • All the jobs we’re currently recruiting for are on Barnardo’s jobs site.
  • Click on the link above to open that site, type ‘digital’ into the ‘key words’ box and click ‘search’.
  • If you’re interested in working for us, and you’ve looked at the organogram but the role isn’t live at the moment, get in touch (see below) to find out whether it’s already filled or still in process. Or check back in a few weeks – we’re releasing jobs every fortnight or so.

Making our application process as equal, open and fair as possible

We are a proactively diverse team. We want to make applying for jobs easy, honest and respectful, so that we can be confident we are hiring based on who you are and what you want to do next, not the experience you don’t have yet. So:

  • Almost all our jobs will be advertised for a month, so you will hopefully have plenty of time to make sure you are happy with your application before you send it to us.
  • All our job descriptions are open to view in this folder for the jobs we’re currently advertising as well as the ones that we’ve filled and are yet to come. (Please ask first if you’d like to reuse them for your own organisation — mostly so we can amplify your recruiting campaign!)
  • We would be delighted to talk to you about any role you’re interested in, and help you decide whether it’s right for you. If you want to talk, send a message on Twitter to @SarahLCarter_ or @xcaplin.
  • We are very selective about the agencies we use. If you are a recruiter with a proven history of diverse hiring – for instance if you work with people with care experience, people returning to work after having children, or people from places in the UK which don’t usually have access to digital roles – we would like to hear from you. At the moment, we are proud to work with Team Prime, WM Recruit and TalentHawk.

If you want to talk first

Please get in touch if you have any questions, are unsure about whether to apply, want to recommend someone else, or you just want to talk it through. Start by messaging @SarahLCarter_ or @xcaplin on Twitter.
