One Who Makes No Mistakes, Makes Nothing At All

Talking to many successful people in various different areas, combining with my own experience in the last years is the inspiration for this post.

There a two very important topics when it comes to success:

  • Fail fast, learn fast.
  • Overcome daily hurdles.

You need to have a wide range of different skills to succeed, but these two mentioned above are the most important ones. I’ll explain why.

Fail fast mentality.

Making a mistake is completely ok, as long as you do not repeat it. Doing that or collecting negative feedback along the way is the hardest, yet most efficient way of progress. Making a mistake means, that you do something new in an area where you don’t have any experience or expertise, yet. You can read a ton of books and try to avoid it, but it won’t push you forward. The pain you feel when you fail and the urgent desire to make it better next time is something a book can’t teach.

I would even go a step further and push you to make mistakes. Why? Because the faster, the better. I hired the wrong people, worked on the wrong projects with the wrong clients. It was brutal sometimes, but at the end of the day totally worth it. I learned from those mistakes and now we have the best team along with the best ideas and customers.

Life consists of hurdles that must be overcome.

You wake up early in the morning and you are tired. It would be awesome to drink a cappuccino, right? But there is no milk in the fridge. So what do you do? Go to the next market and buy a bottle of milk or don’t drink no coffee at all. This is a very simple example, but this is what life looks like every single day. Sometimes you are faced with tiny problems. Sometimes those problems are bigger and more complex, but every single time you either solve it or give up. Even, if you buy three bottles of milk you’ll be faced with the problem some day again.

There is a common ground with all successful entrepreneurs. They never ever give up. They solve every single problem and it doesn’t matter how long it takes. Elon Musk doesn’t give up, if a SpaceX rocket explodes.

Don’t have a Plan B. Focus on Plan A. Fails fast, learn from those mistakes and never give up. Every hurdle, which is getting thrown in your way is something you can solve.
