We just launched our brand new version of the Recipe Writer and honestly, it was with equal parts trepidation and equal parts excitement that we rolled the feature out. Because even though the team had slaved on this for months, bugs were bound to happen. All that testing looks stupid after one wrong move sends the entire thing crashing.

Like we expected post the launch there were some murmurs and grumbles, but what was unexpected was the amount of love the new editor got!

While it is true that pretty much two minutes after that tweet, Nandita did spot a few bugs, but despite that, it’s been an overwhelming reaction, so far.

But when there is any kind of change, there are all sorts of mixes of feelings thrown in. So I decided to find out from some of the Cucumbertown Food Bloggers, what they loved and perhaps even loathed a little about the new Recipe Writer.

Marc Matsumoto: No Recipes

It did take a bit of getting used to as it’s so radically different from anything I’ve ever used before, but in most cases the changes make a huge improvement to the editing experience, and I feel like I’m using a really well designed desktop app, not a website admin interface.

I think the best thing is that this editor will help bloggers spend less time worrying about workflow and more time doing the things they’re passionate about, like developing recipes and writing.

Richa Gupta: My Food Story

Personally I love the new editor, and really enjoy the experience of creating new content with it. My favorite feature has to be that I can now attach different images for each social media platform! Also the scheduling feature is something I’ve been wanting for sooo long.

The new editor makes life super easy for a food blogger without all the technical mess that we hate so much.

There are a few bugs that I keep flagging to the team, but I’m sure they’ll be sorted pretty quickly.

Thanks to the entire team for making this happen!

Nandita Iyer: Saffron Trail

What to say!

Lots to love:

The quantities have moved to the left, which is how I have been writing recipes for 10 years :)

Subheadings for the ingredients and steps. Specific images for every social media platform. And of course scheduling!

There are small bugs like 400–500 ml becomes -100 ml and such, but I’m sure they’ll be ironed out soon.

Monika Manchanda: Sin-a-Mon Tales

Hmmm!

I love how clean and streamlined it looks! Also thank you for the scheduler and preview. Blessings those features are!

I do want that Gallery back though! (We have actually brought the gallery back:) So figuratively, super baker Monika can now have the cake and eat it too!)

We have had a series of interaction with our users and we really, really take their opinions seriously. In fact most of the features in the RecipeWriter came as a result of conversations with our own bloggers. And as you can see, it looks like it’s working for us.

Aren’t you excited to know more about this editor? Then hop on to Cucumbertown and check it out!
