I recently read Be Useful by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It has seven chapters — or as Arnold has refers to them, seven tools for life.

Every chapter is full of valuable lessons, but for you, I want to focus on Chapter One: Have a Clear Vision.

What it means to have a clear vision

During this chapter, Arnold discusses knowing where you’re going, why you’re going there, and how that direction can change over time as our values and priorities change.

For example, Arnold’s life goals have shifted from bodybuilder to actor to politician to author. But it was that initial vision that set the wheels in motion for everything else to follow: Arnold knew early in life that he wanted to come to America and be the best bodybuilder in the world. That was his vision. And because he knew where he wanted to go, he could begin taking steps with the end in mind.

What needed to be true for Arnold to come to America? He had to move there from Austria.

What needed to be true for Arnold to become the best bodybuilder in the world? He had to work his ass off.
