Venmo + Restaurants

You’ll never have to worry about your check

We all know how annoying it is when it comes time to pay the check. Dining with a large group? Dividing the bill, adding the tip, all becomes a nuisance. This pain has been slightly mitigated ever since my friends and I started to use Venmo, but it’s still not seamless.

Today, we use apps that store our information, Uber, Starbucks rewards card, etc. All we have to do is access the app and enjoy the experience. What if we bring that concept to restaurants and other places where we pay for experiences? The problem is who wants to download yet another stand alone app to do this? We want to use an app we already trust and use almost every day.

How it Works

When you walk into your favorite restaurant, their point of sale system will scan the area looking for you. Simply have Venmo on your mobile device.

Once you’re inside, you’ll get a push notification to your phone or smart watch. This notification will inform you that this establishment uses Pay With Venmo.

This can be taken one step further. Simply choose to set the area to scan right outside your restaurant. This will allow your menu or special deals to be pushed to the prospective customers’ device. Lots of people crowded around the posted menu could cause people to keep on walking. Now the menu and specials go right to the device.

Once you unlock your phone you’ll see your unique identifying code. All the server has to do is scan your code and you’re done.

The option to adjust your tip percentage is in place and can be changed before they scan your code. Place your order, relax, enjoy your meal, no hassles when it comes time to pay. It’s that simple.

PS: If you’re ever in Philly, check out Cheu Noodle Bar.

Disclaimer: This is a personal project of mine, and not an actual feature of Venmo.
