The Upsides of Getting Off the Hormone Rollercoaster

I’m 53 years old, and I’ve been through menopause. Twice. Yes, I was one of those lucky women who got to enjoy an encore.

The first time was triggered by chemotherapy as I fought (and won against) breast cancer when I was 42. I experienced all the misery that comes with menopause: hot flashes, irritability, joint pain, skin changes, and thinning hair, to name a few.

But my body bounced back, and I resumed the normal fertility calendar with a normal cycle and an elastic complexion. Then, at 50, the real menopause arrived.

Now, I finally made it through menopause, and believe me, I have paid my womanhood dues. To those of you who have fought through “The Change” and kicked its ass — you are true heroes!

I want to reassure all of you dewy, fertile ladies out there that post-menopause is not a bad place. You have nothing to fear. In fact, there are some major upsides. For instance?
