There’s no shortage of Medium posts criticizing the derivative content that rises to the top on Medium, but far fewer get to the very root of the problem:
YOU.
As long as you keep clicking on the same old stories and falling for the same old headlines, the Medium algorithm will never improve, and we’ll all be self-helping ourselves to the close tab button, rather than cutting through the clutter to find the real value in this publishing community.
Will you solemnly swear to avoid the following types of articles with me?
1. How to Fix Your Life, How to Think Faster On Your Feet, How to Know Everything.
If a blogger could tell you any of those things, the author would be writing a book and selling it. Oh, wait. I just scrolled to the bottom of the post. He is selling a book.
2. You’re doing it wrong.
So many posts want to tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’m raising my kids wrong. I’m reading wrong. I’m brainstorming wrong. I’m leading wrong. I’m exercising wrong. I’m not exercising enough. I’m not exercising at the right time. Get off my back, man.
