Here are the best job platforms where to find your next green job.

Two months ago, I ended the relationship with the company I was working for. Considering the current Climate Change context and that I was collaborating with a company on a mission to design a healthier and more sustainable future, I took the time to clarify my purpose and set my next leap towards a more meaningful career.

After deep thoughts, I decided to keep using my skills as a force for good and help organizations tackle the climate crisis.

Finding the desired opportunities was challenging, though. The usual job search platforms show results that don’t match the keywords you use or don’t fit the announced companies, even if you use the words “social impact jobs”, “green jobs”, “sustainability jobs” or “climate change jobs”.

With a clear direction defined, it was time to look into the right platforms, which I did by using Ecosia — a search engine that plants trees — and came across many platforms announcing green jobs in real purpose-driven companies. Among all the green jobs platforms presented, I focused my attention on Escape the city, Climatebase and For Purpose Jobs.

Why these platforms to find your next green job?

I focused my search on these three platforms for five main reasons:

  • relevant impact-driven filtering;
  • company clear purposes;
  • impact-driven companies database;
  • available resources;
  • seamless user experience.

1. Escape the city

Since its birth in 2010, Escape the City has been on a mission to help people find work that matters to them & and the world. With an impactful message and pleasant experience, this job platform lets you discover opportunities simply and clearly.

Beyond the improved standard job filters like industry, jobs type and remote filters, you can use purpose-oriented filters like “the escape factor” filter and “ B-corp certified organizations”, to find suited job offers in companies aligned with your mission.

Moreover, Escape the city offers an organization search-oriented section with all the listed companies. From all of them, the platform selects the 100 best companies to work in, every year, according to a tight 6 judgment criteria: impact, planet, mission, people, innovation and B-Corp.

Besides all this, it has insightful resources to help you transition into a more meaningful career or to start your own purpose-driven business.

2. Climatebase

Climatebase was created to mobilise humanity to solve the climate crisis and create a low-carbon, planet-positive future. Partnering with Project Drawdown — the world’s leading resource for climate change — this platform started to showcase job opportunities in organizations offering climate solutions.

But not every company can showcase the vacancies on their website. Even if the filters are resumed into keywords, location, sectors, organization type and size, this platform showcases opportunities on climate solutions companies selected through impact criteria, inspired by its partner framework.

To empower the green job search, this site offers a directory of organizations and supports education through climate streaming events from all over the world. Since January 2020, Climatebase has been serving people driven to use their talents to help scale climate solutions.

3. For Purpose Jobs

Inspiring people to use their powers to do better, For Purpose Jobs is a job platform tailored to search for social impact, climate change and sustainability jobs with powerful messaging and colourful branding.

To complement the standard job search filters, it filters the vacancies by area of impact you want to contribute in — from circular economy to renewable energy and from clean water to sustainable agriculture & food.

All the simplicity and appealing organization make this job search engine a fantastic platform to find work on companies committed to continually fight climate change and social injustice.

Extending the green job search

If you want more options, there are more platforms you can explore. You can find social impact, environment and sustainability opportunities in one of these platforms — from freelancing to full-time, with remote options.Net Impact — Net Impact born to inspire and equip emerging leaders to build a more just and sustainable world.

  • Impact pool — a career platform providing the best opportunities for people who are pursuing a career in United Nations organizations.
  • Work for impact — a freelance platform claiming you to make an impact beyond work, where you collaborate with socially and environmentally responsible organizations.
  • B Corps Directory / B work — B Work is a meaningful work platform showcasing opportunities in B-Corps, Benefit Corps, and purpose-driven companies using businesses as a force to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
  • Environment Job — a UK environmental job site tailored to match the right people for the right impact-driven organizations.
  • Environmental career — an American website helping to connect environmental, conservation and sustainable companies with great and suited candidates.
  • Work for good — a platform that connects the purpose-driven community with the nonprofit sector through national job boards, career and hiring resources.

Just a reminder: green jobs go beyond scientific positions.

Any company that is committed to tackling climate crisis in any area needs people working in different expertise like marketing, graphic designer, engineering, operations, finances and logistics and not only scientific positions. Only with a holistic team, companies can scale their positive impact and inspire people to change towards more responsible and sustainable habits.

So, if you feel that’s your time to transition into a more sustainable career, here are some main takeaways:

  • Define your purpose and your mission.
  • Clarify your green job criteria and the area where you want help to make a positive impact.
  • Search green jobs within the right platforms. The standard job platforms won’t give you what you are looking for.
  • Select a few job platforms to narrow down the options and facilitate your organization and search quest.
  • Apply with deep intention to companies aligned with your mission and green jobs criteria.

Use your skills to make a change and help save our world.
