Google has shown that it can enter the gaming fray, and even the playing field. Despite being a corporation that controls our data and now has YouTube under its belt, I admit that I am impressed. Part of me hopes that they keep the Doodle running for those of us that are too busy to regularly keep tabs on the game and save our progress.

I’m not an athletic person. Yes, I can run and swim, but you won’t find me on a team playing basketball. The controversy surrounding the 2021 Olympics has also turned me off following peripherally unless the channel happens to be on television or we see some actual progress with mental health laws and acceptance of necessary medication. It can make someone feel guilty about watching.

The Doodle Champion Island Games present a reasonable compromise for those of us that lack the athletic prowess or means to monitor the Tokyo Olympics for the moment. It has an overarching narrative that is simple, yet has potential for expansion. You only need to access it by clicking “Play”.
