Alright, went through the whole spiel yesterday, so let’s continue.

III (Season 4, Episode 5, Aired October 29th, 1992)

Very funny opening, parodying the famed opening of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, but with Homer replacing the famed director (it works well, especially the resemblance), and it’s a good joke on the warning format).

Anyway, first segment is another Twilight Zone parody, in this case the episode “Living Doll.” Another funny one, especially some of the references. There’s a good Gremlins reference, with the shop owner (if a bit dated). I didn’t realize “froyo” was recent, because frozen yogurt was “frogurt” here. Anyway, another good reference was a brief one to Cape Fear (which the Simpsons would satirize in next season.) Generally, a good segment, especially the ending, where the Krusty doll is revealed to have a switch from “bad” to “good”, and basically becomes Homer’s slave.

Second one is a reference to King Kong. This is a favorite of mine, not the least because of my affection for the original movie. A lot of really funny lines (“I think women and seaman don’t mix”, the conversation about Candy Apple Island and its not very big apes), the good gags that rely on both the original movie and the characters, and especially the ending, which subverts the iconic ending of the movie by having Homer’s signature laziness stop him from getting to the top. And another happy ending. This is a key one to put in any collection.
