Following Hillary Clinton’s announcement on Tuesday of a comprehensive technology and innovation agenda in Denver, today Hillary for Pennsylvania is emphasizing the impact Clinton’s plan could have on Keystone families. Nearly 1.7 million Pennsylvanians still lack access to broadbandservice. In Clinton’s plan, she committed that, by 2020, 100 percent of households in America will have the option of affordable broadband that delivers speeds sufficient to meet families’ needs. Clinton’s plan would also connect more public places like airports and train stations to the internet and enable them to offer free wifi to the public, as well as help deploy 5G and next generation systems that can offer faster wireless speeds.

“Hillary Clinton’s bold goal to expand broadband to every household in Pennsylvania by 2020 would boost our economy while bridging the digital divide for millions of people. A more connected Pennsylvania is a better Pennsylvania because in the 21st century, everyone deserves basic internet access. I applaud Hillary Clinton’s plan to offer affordable broadband to hardworking families because it will spur investment and create new jobs across the Commonwealth,” said U.S. Senator Bob Casey.

Additional components of her technology and innovation agenda include:

  • Allowing young entrepreneurs to defer their federal student loans for up to three years, so they can get their ventures off the ground and help drive the innovation economy.
  • Spurring entrepreneurship and innovation clusters like Silicon Valley across the country, by investing in incubators and accelerators, expanding access to capital for start-ups, and facilitating tech transfer to bring ideas to market.
  • Providing every student in America access to computer science education by the time they graduate, including through engaging the private sector to train 50,000 new computer science education teachers in the next decade.
