A few weeks ago we hosted a give away art competition featuring one of the world's leading equine sculptors, Hrvoje Dumančić who kindly provided us with an amazing opportunity to give away one sculpture to our Paard Verzameld winner.

This year, Croatian sculptor Hrvoje Dumančić (1975) celebrates twenty years as an artist. To mark this amazing achievement we spoke to him about his work, his love for horses and his inspirations.

Over the last twenty years, Hrvoje has built up a huge diverse portfolio of work, winning awards and hosting solo and collective art expos in Paris and London as well as Austria, Croatia, Italy and America. Alongside to his work as a sculptor, Hrvoje holds workshops at his own studio to help and encourage others on their way to find their talent.

You can read Hrvoje’s complete anniversary interview by clicking this link.

Winner Marit van Delft with her sculpture by Hrvoje Dumancic!

We asked you to share forgotten childhood memories with us, and we received many forgotten memories, lovingly remembered and written down by you. Memories that illustrate how wonderful it is to have horses as a companion on life’s great adventures, as a comforter in difficult times and how much joy and unconditional love they give. In short, you are as touched by ‘horse magic’ as Hrvoje is!

One of those inspirational memories stood out from all the entries we received. Congratulations to Marit van Delft who wrote a beautiful, touching poem reflecting on her memories of warm summer days watching Friesian horses in the fields, called ‘the Black Summer’.

“Summers in Friesland, yellow and sunny. With horses as black as coal. Always cheerful, interested and optimistic. Love over the fence by a pet, a breeze an intriguing look. Looking over opulent green fields, tranquility, warmth.

Hours gazing at freedom, the sounds of summer, buzzing, chirping. Horses as black as coal with mane so long. Brown eyes peek behind black strands of hair at a world full of freedom.

A herd of horses as black as coal, sleeping and playing. Horses as black as coal shining in the summer sun, waving at buzzing teasing flies, shaking their beautiful heads, a wealth of mane”

Congratulations Marit and thank you for taking the time to send us your art selfie!
