My new obsession. The work of Conor Harrington (b. 1980), Irish-born street/graffiti artist based in London, England. Many of his murals and paintings feature figures in colonial dress symbolic for the powers of authority.

“Conor Harrington’s blend of the historical and hypermodern is unsurpassed. The Irish former graffiti artist still paints outdoor murals worldwide to considerable acclaim, while enjoying a meteoric rise in his gallery career” (source: Lazarides)

In an interview with Kenneth Hicks from the Wall Street Journal (2016), Harrington states “Distortion (of the figures) is important to me because whether it’s the Romans or the British, no one can stay dominant. All systems of power are temporary”. That’s a reassurance in these times.
