Im in love with the illustrations by Swedish illustrator John Bauer (b. 1882-d. 1918). His sober use of colour and the mood he sets are pure magic. John Bauer was an artist known for his illustrations of fairytales like ‘Bland tomtar och troll’ (“Under elfs and trolls”) a book that is still published each Christmas in Sweden. This makes him still Sweden’s most beloved illustrator.

Besides his art, Bauer was also a keen amateur playwright and spent time learning the art of fresco’s

He drowned in 1918 just 35 years old during a tragic ferry boat accident on Lake Vätter which also claimed the lives of his wife Ester and their three year old son.
