Nina Tuovinen

Helsinki artist Nina Tuovinen (b.1977) studied visual arts at the Hera Helsinki Art School and the Academy of Pekka Halonen in Finland, where she developed her own distinctive style of portraiture. Her use of oils and watercolours in muted and subtle tones, paired with soft and smooth lines, give her work a certain innocent feel. No harsh lines, but a soft depiction of her favorite subject. Being a great admirer of horses, it’s no surprise that Nina specialized herself in equine art.

"I have spent my whole life close to horses. I see them as powerful, yet calm and friendly creatures. Horses bring peace and balance into our lives. To me it is very important to paint subjects that have meaning. When I paint a horse on commissions, that horse is a dear old friend to someone, so I can understand the connection between the horse and the owner. And I want to recreate that feeling into a painting.”

Capturing the intimate bond between horse and owner or a distinctive characteristic of a certain horse, is what makes art so enjoyable for her. Having made a career in the business world before, she is now focusing her talents on creating (art) work which is meaningful. Something that has a soul.

You’ll find more on Nina’s art, information on upcoming art exhibitions and how to get in touch with her on her website.
