Everything you always wanted to know about George Stubbs and Whistlejacket but was afraid to ask.

We asked curator Lea van der Vinde of the Mauritshuis museum, to answer five handpicked questions on her latest exhibition ‘George Stubbs, the man, the horse, the obsession.’

A unique opportunity to ask Lea on her thoughts on this artist, the facts of his career and her interpretation of undoubtedly the most famous equine portrait of all time, Whistlejacket. ‘Was that background really meant to be empty and why are so many people still drawn to this painting?’

Especially poignant seeing that this beautiful exhibition is currently without visitors due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

We will post a video with Lea answering five handpicked questions on Sunday the 18th of April. So make sure you tune in to see if your question is answered! Questions can be asked via our Facebook post.
