Stubbs Talk at the Mauritshuis museum
I am very honored to have been asked by the Mauritshuis museum (the Netherlands) to be part of team of experts sharing their view on George Stubbs at last Sunday’s Stubbs Talk. Our expert team consisted of Mauritshuis museum curator Lea van der Vinde, biologist Janna Horjus and myself. And what a thrill it was! We had a great turn out of lovely horse- and art enthusiasts, who listened. participated and enjoyed our interactive talk on Britain’s master equine artist, expertly led by presenter Milouska Meulens.

During the day, visitors could also follow workshops on anatomical drawing, led by Paard Verzameld artist Catharina Driessen. With her years of experience as an equine artist and horse breeder, she explained with natural ease what goes on beneath the horses skin. What makes a horse move, how do the muscles work and how to realistically capture this on paper or canvas? Questions that Stubbs undoubtedly has asked himself too.
