Renew Licenses on SAP NW AS ABAP 7.50 SP2 (ASE)

When Your SAP Instance Is Not Started

If you have your SAP Instance Developer Edition either on your PC or on the cloud (See my blog on how to setup one on Azure with SAP CAL), you probably cannot start your instance after some time especially if your DB is Sybase ASE as it can get expired as well.

Here is the instruction on how to renew the license for DB and SAP in OS without starting them.

Install New DB License

Check Database License

SSH to SAP Server and log on with DB user by commandsu -l sybnpl

Display the license file with command cat /sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses/SYBASE_ASE_TestDrive.lic

sid-npl /sybase/NPL% cat /sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses/SYBASE_ASE_TestDrive.lic

If the license is already expired, download a new one from here.

Replace the license file with the new one (may be with vi command :) )

Start ASE Database

Log on with SAP user by command su -l npladm

Start SAP with command startsap

You should see the DB is up and running properly.

Install New SAP License

Download new SAP license file from here.

To find your hardware key, use command saplikey -get or saplicense -get

Transfer the license key to SAP server or create license key with vi.

Install license key with command saplikey -install <license_key_file> SAPSYSTEMNAME=NPL

Once installed successfully, restart the server.
