Ever sitting at your desk at home or library staring blankly at your screen thinking, ‘what the hell do I write?’ Escape the mind numbing study rooms and discover Melbourne’s bustling coffee scene while being connected. Below are some great cafés in Melbourne’s CBD supplying you with free WiFi and a delicious brew.

1000 £ Bend — 361 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne

A warehouse style café conveniently just down the hill from RMIT with great coffee and snacks. There’s lots of couches and seating available with a relaxed vibe to let your mind wander. Make sure to check out their exhibition space out the back, too.

Mr Tulk — 328 Swanston Street, Melbourne

If you’ve had enough of the study and reading rooms of the State Library then Mr Tulk is a great nearby option for students to escape and get creative. If you stay long enough, their happy hour is pretty tempting, too.

Journal — 253 Flinders Lane, Melbourne

Situated next to the City Library, this spot is not as removed from the hustle and bustle of Flinders Lane but is very friendly to students and freelancers alike. If you’re feeling peckish, you only have to head upstairs to Journal Canteen for a delicious meal to feed your brain.

The Moat — 176 Little Lonsdale Street Melbourne

Situated just off Little Lonsdale and attached to the State Library & Wheeler Centre, this cosy bunker-style cafe is a hidden gem with dimly lit areas to hide away and put your head down. Don’t be shy and exchange a book from their communal bookcase, you never know what you might find!
