The PAGE Network is an online content theme park platform based on NFTs. The PAGE platform has three main goals. The first is to solve the distribution of illegal copies of IP content with NFT technology. Secondly, it will enable the direct exchange of content between content producers, consumers, and investors. Finally, it aims to establish a decentralized platform through a reward ecosystem based on a transparent settlement system.

Welcome to the PAGE Network!

On August 2nd, there were many news about RIDI, a unicorn platform company in the content industry, was joining to acquire Watcha, an online video service (hereinafter referred to as OTT). Let’s take a look at how publishing content is important in other content areas through RIDI’s acquisition of an OTT company. Please see below for details.

Quantitative Expasion and Qualitative Expansion

OTT competitors such as Wave, Coupang Play, and Tving have been selected as potential acquisition candidates for OTT company Watcha. In the midst of this, RIDI’s actions stood out. The acquisition of existing OTT companies can be seen as a natural acquisition to increase the overall pie for the improvement of the quantity and quality of videos within the framework of the video platform.

However, in the case of RIDI, it is not a challenge to increase the pie that expands the business area in the existing web novel and webtoon-oriented e-book publishing service, but rather aims to expand into other areas along with the existing published content.

Currently, the content market is changing around how to use the IP of published content. Sweet Home, Yumi’s Cells, and Game of Thrones are video contents that were released based on published content such as novels and webtoons.

In the case of RIDI, the focus was on web novels and webtoons, but other content such as movies and dramas can be seen as an acquisition with the intention of converting famous published works into video content based on published content, which was an existing strength. It can be seen as a move to more freely proceed with filmization and dramatization through existing published content.

Naver and Kakao Enter also showed high efficiency when switching media using individual IPs. And it can be seen that the two companies’ moves have made the platform not just a distribution entity, but a center of production, becoming an agile and professional content hub.

Of course, there are disadvantages. In the field of publication, which is the first content of the platform, as secondary and tertiary contents based on it are attributed to one platform, there may also be a problem that the platform may affect the contents.

Through RIDI’s merge candidate for Watcha, we are able to see the case of OSMU in publishing content.

PAGE Network?

Page network has over 7,000 IPs related to fairy tales that give children dreams and hopes. As for the next PAGE’s way, PAGE Network will produce various contents based on published contents like RIDI’s challenge mentioned above. It will be reborn as a platform with ripple effects not only in the licensing field but also in various fields such as video, merchandising, and performance content.
