Meet the team — Liam Russell
In the first part of our series of; Meet the team, Liam Russell talks us through his day to day work as part of the software engineering team internally, his journey from civil engineering and a new addition to the family.
Tell us a bit about what you do at Paid
I am a full stack developer with a particular focus on the the core services which power Paid. I am also involved in a lot of the UI work, in particular the back office administration platforms.
What does your day-to-day look like?
This is a difficult question to ask as I am very much a man with many hats. At the moment, a lot of my time is being spent on design system work for the UI component library which will eventually power the internal admin systems, but most weeks every day can be different as I help out across the whole stack.
What were you doing before you worked at Paid?
Initially I had a career in civil engineering, but my passion for computers meant it wasn’t the path I wanted to take, so I transitioned in software engineering when an opportunity arose.
Since that transition, I have been so lucky to be exposed to so many verticals from chemical gauging to online marketing, which has hugely helped my progression.
If you weren’t at Paid, what would you be doing?
I have always wanted to be working on products that are trying to make a positive difference in the world, so I hope it was for a similar start up to Paid.
I have also recently become a dad for the first time, so spending time raising my daughter is very important to me too.
Tell us something unexpected about yourself.
With the recent arrival, I am unable to enjoy it as much as previous, but I do love esports.
