Pakistan.AI — Enabling the 4th Industry Revolution

DS Weekends by Pakistan.AI — Machine Learning for Data Science

Who We Are

We are a team of extremely goal-oriented and resilient people. The legacy of our founders’ energy, courage, and positivity reflects in each team member and that’s what binds us together! Pakistan.AI was founded as a Facebook group by Samrah Syed & Anas Ayubi in early 2016. Starting the foundations from NEDUET, the group stands now at 12K+ members presenting the top AI experts and innovators from Pakistan including students and professionals who are actively engaged in AI, Big Data, Data Science, and Machine Learning.

Our Mission— Enabling the 4th Industrial Revolution

Our mission at Pakistan.AI is simple! We are working to enable the fourth Industrial revolution by building and providing a community to AI and DS Enthusiasts from all over Pakistan. We aim to upscale industry of users to an industry of product builders - That’s exactly what we at Pakistan.AI hope to achieve.

The AI Legacy of Our Co-founders @ Pakistan.AI

Pakistan.AI is a community centered around Artificial Intelligence to inspire, support and train individuals who - with the help of Artificial Intelligence - will shape the ecosystem of the country through innovation and research to create a sustainable future. Up till now, Pakistan.AI has been actively involved in conducting industry meetups, networking sessions, and training workshops in Karachi in the domain of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence.

Tech Lead Driving The Time Forward @ Pakistan.AI

When it comes to leading the team and alignment of the technical direction, resolving technical disagreements and managing the technical quality of team deliverables, Muhammad Zaid is always at the forefront to tackle the challenges! His core focus on leading the technical direction and ensuring quality of curriculum being designed for the workshops & certified coursers being conducted by Pakistan.AI in Karachi as well as in Islamabad have been indeed a fundamental factor to drive the team forward.

The Rockstar Team of Pakistan.AI — Islamabad Chapter

Continuing it’s AI legacy, Pakistan.AI recently expanded itself to Islamabad as well with its official inauguration on 14th June, 2019. Following community’s huge success in Data Science certified courses, AI Saturdays, DS Weekends in Karachi, we planed a series of 6-weeks “Machine Learning for Data Science” hands-on workshops aimed to provide a kick-start experience in Data Science.

Designing Curriculum of Workshops

To ensure a strong baseline of fundamental computer science concepts being indispensable to learning curve of Data Science, the prerequisites of our 6-weeks long workshops included:

  1. Proficiency in Logic Programming — This included proficiency in logic building skills & computer programming constructs like Variables, Conditionals, Loops, etc.
  2. Sound knowledge of OOP & Data Structures — We also considered sound familiarity with Object Oriented Programming concepts and proficiency in correct use of Data Structures (Lists, Arrays, Dictionaries) as crucial components for the Machine Learning workshops.
  3. Fundamental Mathematical Proficiency — This included familiarity with Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, and Calculus. We believe that “A hands-on perspective without mathematics” is a dangerous myth.

The Content for Machine Learning Workshops itself included the following

The Highly Competitive Application Process

Beginning our competitive journey on 20th, January 2020, we received an incredible amount of interest ranging from students & faculty (from universities including Iqra University, Arid University, FJWU, Bahria University, Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology, COMSATS, IIUI & FAST) to professionals from renowned industrial backgrounds of Telecom, AI & emerging tech startups. Evaluating almost 200 applications of highly motivated and talented individuals and shortlisting a pool of 40 enthusiasts itself proved to be a extremely difficult and exhausting task.

Diving Into The Workshop Series

Take# 01 : Intro to Python for Data Science — 8th Feb, 2020

Critical areas of the day long boot camp included Python for Data Science, Fundamentals of Machine Learning, Python Data Structures, NumPy & Pandas.

Take# 02 : Fundamentals of Machine Learning — 22nd Feb, 2020

A day well spent in a series of hands-on immersive activities starting from data manipulation with Pandas and converging to Fundamentals of Machine Learning.

Take# 03 : K-Nearest Neighbors — 7th March, 2020

We began with a recap of Machine Learning concepts and expanded it to nitty-gritty details of K-Nearest Neighbor.

Take# 04 & Take #05 : Bayesian Classification & Linear Regression— 12th April, 2020

Getting back on the track right after the lockdown of COVID-19, we continued our learning path through interactive online class session to explain it all about Bayesian Classification & Regression Models.

Take# 06 : And Finally The Closing Ceremony — 23rd April, 2020

We concluded the workshop series with an interactive webinar on “Starting Your Data Science Career” by Sir Atique Ur Rehman — one of the finest AI experts in Pakistani Industries (CTO and Senior Research Scientist at Automotive Artificial Intelligence (GmbH)). It was an honor to host his valuable presence as our Guest Speaker.

Closing Ceremony

The Journey of 6 Weeks

This journey of 6 weeks has been truly an exhilarating experience! The persistence, dedication & commitment of every team member in Islamabad Chapter Team has been simply phenomenal.

More Power To You 👍✌️ Muneeba Sirshar, Abeer Noor & Saad Zia

PWiC — Outreach Partner

We partnered with PWiC (Pakistani Women in Computing) as our outreach partner for the entire workshop series. PWiC is a global community of women in computing fields from Pakistan as well as their global allies. The community itself has been at forefront in terms of mentoring, networking and providing other valuable opportunities in computing.

Miss Saba Malik (Global Lead — Academia & Students Pakistani Women in Computing), Thank you your innumerable support! Your valuable feedback and persistent support in various directions from day one of our commencement has been indeed a fundamental factor for our success throughout the journey.

NUCS — Venue Partner

Similarly, we partnered with NUCS (National University Computing Society, FAST Islamabad) as our venue partner for entire series of workshops as well. NUCS aims at showcasing abilities of computer science students to prove their potential in the most effective manner.

Team NUCS, thumbs up for being our venue partner! Gulsher Hussain (President of NUCS), it was great to have NUCS on-board - An effort well collaborated.

All’s well that end’s well
