2023 Racial and Identify Profiling Act Data

Since January 1, 2022, the Palo Alto Police Department has been collecting state-mandated data on qualifying incidents (stops/detentions, person searches, and arrests) to comply with California’s Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA). RIPA data from calendar year 2023 is now listed on the Police Department’s online dashboard and viewable at www.cityofpaloalto.org/PAPDripa

Get ready for the return of beloved events, and new events — join us for a summer season of unforgettable fun, connection, and community.

  • Family Movie Nights: Select Fridays June- August at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Park Athletic Fields
  • Twilight Concert Series: Select Saturdays June — August at 6:30 p.m. in Rinconada and Mitchell parks
  • Yoga for Harmony & Peace: Saturday, June 22, 8–10 a.m. at Lucie Stern Community Center
  • 4th of July Summer Festival & Chili Cook-Off: Thursday, July 4, 11 a.m. — 3 p.m. at Mitchell Park
  • MSC Open House: Saturday, July 27, 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. at the Municipal Services Center

Juneteenth Events and Resources

There are several regional events honoring Juneteenth- the national holiday of freedom celebrating the resilience, hope, and determination of people of African descent. Reflect and celebrate by joining Palo Alto and Bay Area events or learning through Palo Alto Library curated book lists. East Palo Alto and Menlo Park hosted events this past weekend, and Palo Alto, Redwood City and Los Altos events are planned Wednesday, Friday and Saturday respectively:

  • What’s Up Wednesday Music with Soul4Kids at Palo Alto’s Rinconada Library on Wednesday, June 19, 3:30 p.m.
  • Juneteenth Music on the Square at Redwood City Courthouse Square on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m.
  • 5th Annual Juneteenth Community Festival in Los Altos at 97 Hillview Road on Saturday, June 22 at 12 p.m.

Council Actions Summary

Council Actions: June 17

Fiscal Year 2025 Budget: Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2024–2025 Budget, including the Operating and Capital Budgets and Municipal Fee Schedule for FY2025 plus other related items.

Utility Rates: Approved utility financial plans to update and increase the rate schedules to support infrastructure priorities and utility services operations.

Hydroelectric Supply Contract: Approved the continuation of the Western Area Power Administration Hydroelectricity Base Resource contract.

Council Actions: June 18

Caltrans’ El Camino Real Repaving: Approved the Caltrans project including adding bike lanes with authorization to adjust the residential parking permit program, provide temporary safe parking for those along project corridor, and other conditions.

Community Development Block Grant: Adopted the FY2024–25 Annual Action Plan and approved CDBG use of funding.

Buena Vista Redevelopment: Provided direction on next steps after the environmental analysis to advance the Buena Vista redevelopment preserving affordable housing in Palo Alto.

Rail Grade Separation: Voted to advance the hybrid, including a mixed wall/column approach, and underpass alternatives for Meadow Drive and Charleston Road into the preliminary engineering and environmental documentation phase.
