I think I am overly judgmental — please help.

So I was watching the Olympics, and I was watching rowing — again a sport I know little to nothing about. The announcers talked about this American male team of 4 or 5 and how they were all Ivy leaguers. Literally, my first thought was, “duh, of course they are.”

Does anyone think rowing is a sport that most people not born with a silver spoon in their mouth can easily pursue? Of course, most rowers come from money.

I have never heard of inner-city school kids rowing. Neither have I heard of lower to middle-income kids rowing, so why would I not assume that this is a sport for people who can afford an Ivy League education?

Was this a knee-jerk reaction and a total assumption without the facts? Absolutely. Could I…
