This partnership is part of the Cancer Research UK Entrepreneurial Programmes Initiative which aims to promote and enable cancer researchers to engage in entrepreneurship to translate their ideas and discoveries into patient benefit.

OncoStars invites scientists to think about their research from a translational perspective, to awaken their entrepreneurial need for action, and to make those first steps on the journey of building a start-up around their bold visions.

The partnership works on establishing the next generation of ventures that bring market-leading solutions within the areas of: therapeutics, medtech, diagnostics, digital health, AI and platform technologies. The OncoStars programme provides scientists and entrepreneurs with top-tier support, education, resources and access to investors.

Mina Bekheet, Panacea’s CEO and Founder commented:

“We are proud and privileged to be working so closely with Cancer Research UK. We are looking forward to seeing the benefit for all scientists within the oncology domain and likewise, for cancer patients, arising through this collaboration. The experience, resources and leading role of Cancer Research UK, combined with our novel model, capital and ever-growing network of strong partners will help to support researchers in translating their science into tangible products and services.”

Tony Hickson, Cancer Research UK’s Chief Business Officer, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Panacea Stars to launch another round of the OncoStars programme which continues to inspire a new generation of scientific entrepreneurs and support venture creation. Helping scientists translate their research out of the lab is critical for bringing new technologies and treatments into the clinic, shaping the future of how we diagnose, treat and screen people with cancer.”

As part of the OncoStars programme, Panacea and Cancer Research UK will be co-hosting a multi-phased framework, joined by seasoned experts, to further explore the translation of science from the lab into the clinic to ensure the greatest impact.

The application call for the OncoStars Action programme, dedicated to ideas/start-ups based around oncology is open now. Applicants shortlisted for the programme will gain business and entrepreneurial training along with access to Cancer Research UK’s and Panacea’s professional networks. The top teams will subsequently get the opportunity to join the wider Panacea Stars Develop and Grow phases, where they will receive tailored support and resources, and the opportunity to receive capital. The programme is enabling the founders to de-risk their start-up, build their proof of concept and turn their idea into a thriving business which will help to diagnose, treat or prevent cancer.
