Cancer researchers set to build oncology-based cutting-edge technologies through new Panacea-Cancer Research UK partnership.

OXFORD/LONDON — UNITED KINGDOM — WEDNESDAY 25th SEPTEMBER, 2019

Panacea partners with Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent funder of cancer research, to help young entrepreneurs form, develop and grow ground-breaking ideas in the field of oncology.

Panacea and Cancer Research UK are today launching OncoStars, designed to inspire scientists to think about their research from a translational perspective, to spark their entrepreneurial appetite, and to help them build a start-up around their bold visions.

The partnership aims to establish the next generation of oncology-based ventures that introduce market-leading solutions within the areas of: therapeutics, medtech, diagnostics, digital health, artificial intelligence and platform technologies,by providing scientists and entrepreneurs with top-tier support, education, resources and access to capital.

Mina Bekheet, Panacea’s CEO and Founder commented: “We are proud and privileged to be working so closely with Cancer Research UK. We are looking forward to seeing the benefit for all scientists within the oncology domain and likewise, for cancer patients, arising through this collaboration. The experience, resources and leading role of Cancer Research UK, combined with our novel model and ever-growing network of strong partners will help to support researchers in translating their science into tangible products and services.”

Tony Hickson, Cancer Research UK’s chief business officer, said: “With the extensive expertise and guidance of Panacea, we can nurture a new generation of scientific entrepreneurs and encourage innovation at the interface of academia and industry.

“This partnership will form part of our new Entrepreneurial Programmes Initiative, which is a first for Cancer Research UK. We are proud to be driving entrepreneurship in cancer research and helping transform more ideas into lifesaving medicines for patients.”

As part of OncoStars, Panacea and Cancer Research UK will be co-hosting a series of events, aimed at all scientists, academics and entrepreneurs working in oncology, which will explore how we can translate science from the lab into the clinic.

Additionally, an application call dedicated to ideas/start-ups based around oncology will be opened. Shortlisted applicants will gain business and entrepreneurial training along with access to Cancer Research UK’s and Panacea’s professional networks. The top teams will then get the opportunity to join the wider PanaceaStars Develop and Grow phases, where they will receive tailored support and resources, and the opportunity to pitch for investment, enabling them to de-risk their start-up, build their proof of concept and turn their idea into a thriving business which will help to diagnose, treat or prevent cancer.
