Testing the Griddle

The griddle will be one of the most important parts to our CNC pancake making machine. Determining what heating settings we need to use and how batters of different consistencies cook will be critical to the success of the project. We want to ensure that our extruder head has enough time to travel to different areas of the griddle without a pancake getting overcooked.

Here’s a video of us testing out different batters at different heating levels. We are trying to make pancakes with the outline of a letter — to varying success.

We found that our griddle and batter combination cooks to a golden color very quickly, but then takes a long time to brown. This could prove difficult for use to use the coloring on the pancake to outline different designs. However, from this experimentation we found that it should be relatively easy to have the extruder move around the griddle in time. It takes a long time for a pancake to fully cook, so we should be able to get to a spot before the pancake cooks.

After many trials, we did have some success in creating more complex designs, though more testing will be needed in order to implement this successfully.
