Research by McKinsey & Company suggests that the pandemic is likely to end only in late 2021.

An article published by the consultant suggests that the end of the pandemic will depend on location. In most developed countries, the end of the crisis is likely to be reached in the third or fourth quarter of 2021 or, better still, in the first or second quarter of the same year.

McKinsey also predicts that the distribution of a vaccine to a sufficient portion of the population capable of inducing group immunity could take place in just six months. This will require the rapid availability of millions of doses, effective distribution chains, and the willingness of people to be vaccinated in the first half of 2021.

“We believe that these are reasonable expectations, based on the information released by the pharmaceutical companies and the data collected regarding the acceptance of the majority of the population to receive the vaccine”

Thus, group immunity is expected to be achieved in the second quarter of 2021.
