Or: How we Learned to Stop Worrying and Publish Content
Happy New Year!
First, before I say anything else, I’d like to say how floored I am by the rapid growth of this publication’s audience. My personal goal for the new year was to have reached 100 subscribers, and I’m extremely excited to say that we’ve shattered that goal. This is the kind of growth that an editor can get excited about, too- I consider every single one of our followers a true fan.
In choosing to subscribe to Panel & Frame, you’ve chosen to show your support for an ever-expanding group of writers, critics, comic artists, and content producers. Our contributors’ talent is matched only by their passion, and we are committed to making good on our promise to produce a beautiful, innovative, physical product that will not only display their work, but provide them with payment for it.
I wanted to take a moment to address you all as we move into the new year to update you on the status of our ambitious little project.
By the end of January, we plan to be ready to launch a preliminary crowdfunding campaign for the very first print edition of Panel & Frame. This means we’ll have produced a concept design, ensured that our numbers are correct on printing and pricing, and will be requesting pre-orders of the issue in the number that will make the publication possible.
The rewards are going to be simple- if you fund an issue of the magazine, you’ll receive an issue of the magazine. We’ll be thinking up some other things as well, such as backer reward pages and such, but the general idea is that each backer will be buying into the idea of the magazine, and that we’ll be able to get the ball rolling on its production.
If we secure the necessary funding, we’ll be able to move forward with selecting excellent content from independent content producers to fill the first issue, and begin making preparations to showcase the publication at large events, such as Comic Conventions and Publishing Showcases- no doubt leading to increased circulation.
For now, the best thing you can do for the publication is to get the word out about our goals. Recommendations, shares, and tweets will get this post, and the rest of our content, in front of more eyes. If you’re interested in producing content for Panel & Frame, you can always tweet at us, either with an article pitch or a link to content you’ve already produced. Growing our creative community is still one of our biggest reasons for producing the publication, and we’re always happy to explore new kinds of content, and hear new voices.
Once again, I’d like to thank you for subscribing to our little publication. With your help, and your continued support, we can produce something truly unique and beneficial to our contributors. This is going to be a year of interesting challenges, and of thrilling triumphs- and with you, our subscribers, we can meet them all.
Yours,
Brad Decker
